Newcastle United still unsure about signing Mevlut Erding

Newcastle United boss, Alan Pardew has declared himself confident that the club will eventually sign Turkish striker Mevlut Erding from Paris St Germain. Newcastle have been in constant contact with the player's current club, despite being on tour in America at the moment. Newcastle escorts are hoping the deal goes through as the team's front line is seen as a weak spot, especially since losing Andy Carroll to Liverpool recently.

It is believed the deal has been held up by PSG sporting director Leonardo as he has big plans to transform the French club. Mevlut Erding is possibly still interested in sticking around at the Paris club if the future seems bright and the team will be somewhat built around him.

Pardew is expected to sign at least one new striker for the upcoming season with possibly two or three actually coming in in the end. Newcastle struggled to score goals last season even before they sold Andy Carroll to Liverpool in a £35 million transfer. That deal was seen as great business for the north-east club but fans will certainly be expecting at least some of that money to be reinvested into the squad.

One new signing who has done well for the Magpies recently is Demba Ba. Having recently signed from West Ham United after their relegation, he has played well against American opposition on Newcastle's pre-season tour. There are also high hopes for Frenchman Yohan Cabaye, a player not particularly well known to most Newcastle fans, but who comes to the club with a reputation for having excellent vision and great ball control.

Pardew is not giving too much away, but has been quoted as saying “If we get a couple of new players this team won’t be far away. As I have explained it will take time. But in August things will start coming thick and fast – everybody has been away on tour. I think we could have something resolved in time for the Arsenal game. I hope we will.”
